Rhythm and Embodying the Word

Picture
The Hebrew Scriptures and Christian Gospel is filled with vivid imagergy, poetic verse, and puslating rhythms. Experience how simple drum beats and other world percussion can create rhythmic soundscapes that heighten listeners attention. Learn how to build a Spoken Word Choir with various vocal techniques that breath new life into even the most well known passages. You will leave this workshop with creative tools that will transform your scripture readings into dynamic spoken word offerings. This workshop is designed for congregations seeking a more active engagement with sacred text.

In a manner that can only be described as miraculous, Nisha helped the young people of Grace Church connect with themselves, with each other and with Scripture through the use of Afro-Caribbean drumming. Simply transformational.
Jorge Lockward, Global Praise Director, General Board of Global Ministries

Global Song and Inclusive Worship

Picture
Global Songs of praise, prayer and  justice can broaden our understanding of God, attune us to the needs and hopes of the world, and move us toward faithful action. Learn songs from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, South and North America which are accessible to all levels of musical ability. Experience how global music can be woven into various liturgical experiences including calls to worship, scripture reading, prayers of the people, and the sacraments to empower congregational participation, engender a sense of belonging and enliven worship.

Nisha's many creative gifts open window to the invigorating winds of the Spirit and the collaborative celebration of God's diverse people in worship.  The experience is both global and personal, devotional and missional.  Best of all, God is always at the center.
Bishop Peter Weaver, New England United Methodist Conference

Finding Our Center in Worship

Picture
Wholistic worship experiences integrate both reflective and   relational spiritual practices. They also enable congregations to move through meaningful experiences of quiet meditation, impassioned community expression, and heightened awareness of our deep connection to the global community. Experience how global percussion from Africa, Asia, and the Americas can immerse us in these distinct and interrelated forms of worship. The global percussion experiences shared in this workshop will be introduced in a way that can be replicated in any congregation. This workshop is designed for congregations who seek to create worship that speaks to both the contemplative and action oriented parts of our spirit.

Nisha Purushotham, musician, educator, and activist has the unique gift of weaving into the hearts of others the joy of making music while sampling the richness of the culture residing within the sounds. Nisha is an excellent resource for any congregation, organization, or youth group seeking a new and experiential way to enjoy the rhythms of our neighbors near and far.
